Annotation:

The new subject “Biophysics of voltage-dependent ion channels” aimed at the second (master) and third (PhD.) level of university studies of pharmacy has been established and the textbooks and electronic presentations of lectures in Slovak and English has been written and published. These textbooks and lecture presentations can be used for further education of research and university staff in various branches of pharmaceutical, medical, veterinary and natural sciences. The textbooks provide an overview of most recent knowledge about the regulation of voltage-dependent ionic channels, on changes of their regulations in pathology and on mechanisms and consequences of their pharmacological modulations. Simultaneously, the practicals from electrophysiology and pharmacology of voltage-dependent ion channels using the patch clamp method and mathematical simulation of ionic currents and action potentials has been worked out and tested. The electronic presentations of lectures have been made available to a broad audience on the internet.
